Description : The CADAL (China Academic Digital Associative Library) is a cooperated project of universities and institutes in China and foreign countries, which originated from the China-US Million Book Digital Library Project, and the objective is to create a free-to-read searchable collection of million books available to everyone over the internet. After more than 10 years construction, CADAL is now recognized as one of the largest and most significant academic digital libraries with more than 6 million volumes digital bookings covering almost all subjects. This report will first introduce the overview of CADAL: the initiation, the collections, the achievements, and the services of CADAL. And then the report will present the problems and the solutions in massive digitalization of CADAL. To achieve full-text searching, CADAL also develops a dedicated OCR system for Chinese character which can finish more than 4000 books’ recognition per day. At last the report will briefly introduce personalized recommendation and chapter-based digital lending of CADAL and the future of CADAL.
