Abraham à Hébron

Résumé

Abraham is seen as the father of the three monotheistic faiths. According to the Bible, Abraham lived at the oakland of Mamre, close to Hebron in Palestine. There he offered hospitality to three mysterious strangers under the oak of Mambre, near Hebron. Nowadays, a Russian Christian Orthodox monastery houses an old tree considered as the one of Abraham. Adnan, his guardian, is Muslim. The tradition of Abrahamic hospitality has been perpetuated in the old town of Hebron, through the daily distribution of a kitchen soup to the most deprived. Abraham, Sarah and their descendants are buried, according to tradition, in the Cave of the Patriarchs. After several successive appropriations, this sanctuary is today a place of division.
