We approach the foreign culture to be acquired, with our own cultural filters, overestimating or underestimating, accepting or rejecting the Other. The representations are indicative of both the categorised community and the categorising community. Those relating to the projected languages and cultures play a key role in the cohesiveness of a community and contribute to the distancing processes.

Nous abordons la culture étrangère à acquérir avec nos propres cribles culturels, surestimant ou sous-estimant, acceptant ou rejetant l’Autre. Les représentations sont révélatrices aussi bien de la communauté catégorisée que de la communauté catégorisante. Celles qui portent sur les langues et les cultures véhiculées jouent un rôle central dans la cohésion d’une communauté et participent aux processus de distanciation.
