A vanishing Chongqing (III)
Résumé
This old man spends a few hours a day taking care of his orchards, which are scattered around the neighbourhood. In spite of his old age, 93 years, he negotiates these steep steps with an astounding vitality. Looking at him, one marvels at his strength. But it also makes one wonder what the rationale is for building a city on such difficult terrain. Easy access to water, to fishing and to trade routes as the most plausible reason.
