Practiced at dawn and at dusk in every town in China, the so-called fitness dancing fulfils to basic roles: on the one hand, it helps locals to keep healthy and, on the other, it strengthens community ties. The dance is usually carried out in public squares and everybody is welcomed to join. Music is played from a tape recorder and varies in accordance with the region. In this part of Sichuan, Tibetan music and dances are a staple, although folk music is combined with the latest hits.
