Borehole construction of the seismological station REST of the RLBP at Domaine de Restinclières (Hérault)

Résumé

The video explains the different stages of construction of a seismological station while drilling (making the trenches, preparing the drilling, installing the seismic well and the sensor). This installation took place at the Domaine de Restinclières in Hérault. For this station REST, the drilling is located at a depth of 7 meters and the seismometer at 6 meters. The sensor was lowered into the tube with the help of an azimuth cart designed to ensure its correct orientation and is buried to ensure the quality of the data collected. In addition to the seismic sensor, a GNSS pillar is present on site. The station is operational since November 2020. It is operated by Géosciences Montpellier and is part of the Permanent Broadband Network (RLBP) of Résif, a national research infrastructure dedicated to the observation and understanding of the internal Earth structure and dynamics. Résif is based on observation networks of high technological level, composed of seismological, geodetic and gravimetric instruments deployed densely throughout the French territory. The data collected allow to study with a high spatio-temporal resolution the ground deformation, the superficial and deep structures, the seismicity at the local and global scale and the natural hazards, especially seismic, on the French territory. Résif integrates with European (EPOS - European Plate Observing System) and worldwide instruments that allow to image the interior of the Earth as a whole and to study many natural phenomena.
